Frontline accesses the Sagayam Report on the granite loot in Madurai district in Tamil Nadu, which went on for more than a decade from the mid 1990s. Besides noting the massive revenue loss of more than Rs.1 lakh crore to the government, it records the operations of the mining mafia—the threats, the human sacrifices and its nexus with the bureaucracy in the State.
