A land iguana on North Seymour Island. Land iguanas, fewer than the ubiquitous marine iguanas, are much bigger and are found mostly on Plazas and North Seymour Islands.

The absence of major predators has rendered the exotic creatures of Galapagos fearless, so much so that they are quite at ease with humans clicking away at touching distance. Text and photographs by SUDHA MAHALINGAM
